Industrial Measurement Products
Bytewise designs and builds non-contact, industrial measurement systems that capture the external geometric profile of a product and analyze that data to meet measurement and/or quality control requirements. Our products are designed with the goal of providing a rapid return on investment to our customers and we attempt to accomplish this by developing systems that are easy to use, reliable to operate and effective at solving problems.

All of our industrial measurement products are built using laser sensors that acquire the data necessary to perform measuring and monitoring functions. Originally, most of our industrial measurement systems utilized a single spot laser sensor. In 2001, we developed our own line of Profile Sensors, utilizing “sheet-of-light” laser technology, and we now employ these in the majority of our systems. The main advantage provided by the Profile Sensor is that a large amount of data can be collected instantaneously without having to move the sensor.
When utilizing a single spot sensor, either the sensor or the product must move in order to collect a complete profile of the product. If the industrial measurement product is moving, the data, while presented as though it were a true cross-section of the product, is actually collected in a “Z” pattern rather than a true cross-section. This decreases the accuracy of the system and the required motion creates system complexity and maintenance requirements. For this reason, we typically utilize single spot lasers only with our off-line systems where the product remains in a fixed position throughout the measurement.
With the use of a Profile Sensor, or, if needed, multiple Profile Sensors aligned in a single coordinate plane, the sensor(s) can remain in a fixed position and collect the entire product topography in a true cross-section “snapshot.” This sensor capability, combined with ever-increasing computing power, has enabled us to develop systems that collect more accurate and useful data and utilize fewer moving parts, thus reducing maintenance requirements.
No matter how good the technology is, we realize that a industrial measurement system is valuable only if it is usable. This requires that the software be very logical and intuitive and as simple to operate as is possible while still having the necessary features to get the job done. Since our beginnings as a software development company, we have taken great pride in our ability to understand the needs of both the production and engineering users and develop our software to meet both of their needs in a way that makes the system easy to learn and operate.
