DOT and Mold Code Reading
The Tire Identification System utilizes Bytewise Sheet-of-Light ("SL") Sensors to rotationally scan the sidewall and identify the tire. Tire Identification can be made from any molded-in feature, such as DOT Code, Mold ID Code, or molded-in bar code.
The Tire Identification System is used in auto assembly factories and Tire/Wheel mounting facilities to match the DOT Code, including the date code, to the Vehicle ID Number. This information is used to provide an audit-trail for purposes of recall management and/or to assure the correct tire is on the vehicle. It may be used to eliminate the need for more expensive alternatives, such as bar codes and RF tags.
The Tire Identification System is used in tire factories to identify tires after curing for sorting into the final finish department. This can eliminate the cost and inaccuracy of human tire sorting. When identification is done based on unique mold ID codes, uniformity and balance data can be associated to the Mold ID code to provide an audit trail back to the mold.
