Product Guiding
The Bytewise Feature Tracker uses a Sheet-of-Light ("SL") Sensor to sense and track geometrical features on a complex profile and continuously output the position signal to an automatic component guiding or web guiding system.
Traditional web guiding systems detect the outside edges only of the web product, whereas the Feature Tracker ("FTSL") can be configured to find and track any geometric feature within the web product, such as a center groove, a raised die-line, or even a non-symmetrical profile feature. The position signal is used as input to the user’s closed-loop control system that guides the web product. This feature-based guiding is more precise than edge-guiding systems because edges often become distorted due to shrinkage and handling effects.
