Auto Body Side Moldings
Extruded auto body side moldings must meet demanding dimensional specifications to ensure aesthetic quality and performance requirements. Continuous inspection is important to ensure that the extrusion will fit precisely with secondary molding operations and that features such as tape channels are within specification. The Profile360 is currently used to achieve these goals by providing immediate on-line dimensional feedback to extrusion operators and by interfacing with downstream devices to sort bad product. The result is less scrap in extrusion and molding and increased operator productivity due to the need for fewer, if any, trips to a 10X comparator. Additional benefits include the ability to identify dimensional problems due to the setup of the extruder, grinder and/or other downstream equipment.
Since Profile360 has a measurement area up to 150mm (6 inches) even large auto body side moldings can be continuously inspected to meet an auto maker’s strict demands while simultaneously reducing scrap and increasing productivity.
